SODHAIDESA works to provide affordable medical care and preventive  health programs for Haitian Dominicans living in batey communities (originally sugarcane plantation housing) around Santo Domingo. In addition to running a low-cost clinic in the city, SODHAIDESA organizes volunteer doctors and health professionals to lead health workshops and human rights workshops and to make medical visits and deliver needed medicines to marginalized communities.  Born in Haiti, Dr. Compere immigrated to the Dominican Republic and hoped to use his medical skills to improve the health of Haitian immigrants and Haitian Dominicans in the Dominican Republic. It was with this vision that he founded SODHAIDESA.
